Safe, Healing, All Natural Xylitol
Xylitol is a natural sweetener and it’s not doesn’t fall into the same class as saccharine, the active component in Sweet’n Low, or aspartame, the important component in Equal and NutraSweet. Saccharine and aspartame are synthesized sweeteners that are made in a lab. They’re artificial chemicals that’ve been linked to several life threatening diseases. Xylitol is a natural sweetener that comes from the earth, from nature. It can be obtain from fruit, berries, vegetables, birch wood, corn, straw, seed hulls, and nutshells. The kids were split into 3 categories: kids that chew Wrigley’s gum sweetened by sucrose, youngsters gnawing xylitol sweetened gum, and kids chewing sorbitol sweetened gum. Remember, xylitol and sorbitol sweeteners are both sugar alcohols. The study lasted for forty months where the youngsters chew gum each day, including weekends and vacations. The kids who chewed xylitol gum had 73% fewer cavities! Youngsters who gnawed gum sweetened by sorbitol had a decrease in cavities, but by only 26%. Youngsters gnawing sucrose sweetened gum had an increase of cavities of 120%.
In Estonia, a study evaluated the use of xylitol gum and candy in ten year old college youngsters. After three years of gnawing xylitol gum, there had been a 53.5% decrease in cavities when put next to the control group who gnawed no gum. Sucking on xylitol candy led to a 33% to 59% decrease in cavities. Gnawing xylitol gum is more useful to dental health than not gnawing it!
In Costa Rica, a study was done comparing the use of xylitol-sweetened toothpaste with control toothpaste, each of which contained fluoride. After three years of brushing 2 times a day, the xylitol group had 10.5%-12.3% less cavities.
It’s not possible to stop cavities. Many people had accepted the fact that when a hole forms, the only thing that can stop it is a dentist’s drill. This isn’t right! Xylitol can stop cavities from worsening and can also heal cavities by making an environment where the tooth basically regains its enamel coating.
